The Word of God is both compass and map to the believer. It enables such a one to navigate the vessel of the heart upon the shifting seas of life.

Rebels spurn the instruments and journey blind. Pursuing their own ends by their own means, they tread the waters of falsity, futility, and folly. They follow cultural currents, sink in emotional tempests, and drift through streams of indifference. Such a voyage ends at the port of death and darkness.

But for those who take and treasure the tools, grace has dawned. The shore of ultimate reality—the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ—enters our sight. Thus, with destination in view, we may travel well, with our sails turned open to truth, light, and life.
