A Word About Words
Scripture demands that words be taken seriously. Without words, we could not sufficiently communicate with one another, I could not write this, and you could not understand it. Words represent & convey ideas, thoughts, and concepts like no other medium can. Words can make concrete what is abstract, simple what is profound, and vivid what is dull.
Psalm 12:6 nasb
The words of the Lord are pure words; As silver tried in a furnace on the earth, refined seven times.
Thus, words — their usage, construction, and purpose — are essential.
Through Christ, God created and ever-sustains all things visible and invisible by his word (Genesis 1, Colossians 1:16, Hebrews 1:3, John 1:3). God reveals himself to us by the written Word and incarnate Word — the Bible and Jesus (Hebrews 1:1-2, John 1:14). Our own words reveal our hearts, bless or blaspheme God, curse or commend others, and demand an account (Luke 6:45, James 3:9, Matthew 12:36).
The Gospel is the word, or message, of salvation (Romans 1:16). Faith comes by hearing the word of Christ preached (Romans 10:17). The Word of God sanctifies believers, enlightens our minds, and cuts to our hearts (Psalm 119:130, John 17:17, Psalm 119:105, Hebrews 4:12). The words of Scripture give us wisdom that leads to salvation; they are profitable to teach, reprove, correct, train, complete, and equip us to be men of God (2 Timothy 3:15-16).
colossians 3:16 nasb
Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
Purpose & Vision
The primary purpose and vision of this website is to the sanctified and earnest use of writing as a medium to communicate the truths and glories of Christ and his Word— with a view to edify, encourage, and exhort others to the end that the Lord may be all in all.
Writing. To the Glory of God. is meant to concisely state this mission.
Theography is a specific combination of two greek word roots.
- θεός (pronounced “the-os”), which means God or god.
- γραφή (pronounced “graf-ay”), which means writing, script, or drawing.
So, Theography (pronounced “thē-ˈä-grə-fē) is “writing about God”.
Two clarifying notes:
- We are not God. The name is not meant to convey this.
- The God of the bible is the one true God. All other gods are false.
